Linkedin is awesome. It’s getting better day by day.
Now, You must have heard the word ‘Linkedin’, but, If you aren’t familiar with it, Then, Don’t worry.
I got your back. Because Linkedin is my favourite social media platform and I am here to share with you all I know about Linkedin.
So, What is Linkedin? Well. It’s a social media platform where students who want jobs are connected to people who give jobs (recruiters), right?
Wrong! Linkedin is not just a job searching platform. It’s much more than that. It’s a social media platform just like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. In fact, Every second, 2 new members are added on Linkedin.
Linkedin is a professional networking platform. It’s like the ‘Facebook for Professionals’ (as I like to call it.)
Linkedin is a social media platform where you post articles, videos, images, text based posts and more.
It is just like Facebook where you share updates with your friends. One of the major difference being that on Facebook, You have ‘friends’ , but, on Linkedin , You have ‘connections’.
Yep! That’s right. Connections. And, That too a lot of connections. You can have to 30,000 connections on Linkedin. YES! That’s a lot.
Also, You can upload your profile picture on Linkedin, just like you do on Facebook. And, Just like Facebook, You can also upload a cover photo too. The only difference being that if you want to upload a cover picture on Linkedin, You currently can’t do it via the Linkedin application. So, You should login via your desktop or laptop to login and upload a cover picture on Linkedin.
And, Just before we move on, I would like to share with you that as Linkedin is a professional networking platform, You have to be professional. So, Your profile picture should look professional and updated.
It looks bad when people while fooling around take selfies and upload that photo as their profile picture. It doesn’t look good. And, It would create a negative impression. Also, Try to have the profile picture of yourself and not of someone else. For eg: If you like a Hollywood actress or actor, and, You keep their photo as your profile picture, then, It isn’t going to help you make a good impression on the person viewing your Linkedin profile.
So, What do you need to have in order to have a great Linkedin profile picture? Simple. You well suited-up or dressed up in a formal dress would be great. Also, Make sure that your profile picture isn’t your complete body picture. Because if you have uploaded a photo which has your complete body, then, your face becomes almost invisible to the person viewing your profile as the size of the Linkedin profile picture is small. So, Make sure you either take a headshot or upload a photo in which your face is clearly visible. As If people don’t see your face on Linkedin, then, they probably won’t trust you since they can’t see you!
Also, If you are thinking about the cover photo on Linkedin, then, You should head to ‘Canva’ and create a beautiful cover picture for Linkedin. You can try to search for the ‘Linkedin Banner Image’ on Canva and you would get the right size for the cover picture. You should try to showcase your industry via your cover picture or show your skillset or even display your important profile points via the photo. Like, I have my Linkedin cover photo as me speaking at TEDx and have also imposed some text on the image to share some of my important achievements on the platform.
And, Yes. If you are already logged in on Linkedin via the application on your mobile and you are viewing your profile and seeing a blue screen at the top of your profile, then, that means you don’t have a cover photo on Linkedin.
So, You should try and have one.
