Single-player beat-em-up styled campaigns are not exactly new to the realm of fighting games considering other series like Tekken and Mortal Kombat have dabbled in those designs before though it's still fairly exciting to see new developers take a crack at these fairly unique experiences.
Cygames and Arc System Works are taking that idea and running with it for the upcoming Granblue Fantasy Versus, as the new fighter will feature an RPG Mode where players can go through the game's story, complete various quests, fight giant bosses and collect new weaponry.
Now, footage has surfaced of RPG Mode's tutorial showing off how to fight multiple enemies at once and how the user interface will appear.
Considering it steps away from the standard 1v1 fighting style of the rest of the game, it's no surprise that Granblue Fantasy Versus will feature a completely different UI from Versus Mode which has the character's health, meter and level with room to add additional players for co-op.
Enemies will have their own individual life bars in the RPG mode, as Gran is tasked with taking down multiple potted enemies at once in the tutorial.
Special attacks look like they'll function largely the same as their versus counterparts with individual countdown timers preventing players from using their powerful attacks too quickly in a row.
Granblue Fantasy Versus is currently in development for the PlayStation 4 with a Japanese release date of February 20, 2020, and we recently got a chance to see the entire game's roster in action with the announcement of Zeta and Vaseraga as playable fighters.
