Niall Horan Irish slang tutorial will leave you in stitches - Metro.co.uk

Niall Horan may be world famous, but he’s still close to his roots.

And as Mullingar’s most famous export (sorry, Shane Lowry and Michael O’Leary), Niall is spreading words of wisdom from his homeland.

The 26-year-old has explained Irish slang to the world and for those from outside Ireland, it’s a real eye-opener.

In a video for Vanity Fair, the Slow Hands singer cracked up as he was given examples of Irish slang to define – leading to Niall calling his home country ‘insane’.

Given the word ‘banjaxed’, the One Direction star said: ‘I guess the real definition would be broken down. Like if a car was pulled over on the side of the road, and its tire was hanging off, you’d say “that car is banjaxed”.

‘Or, banjaxed could mean when you’re absolutely obliterated drunk.’

Niall went on to explain he refers to his knee as ‘gammy’ as it’s messed up, and explained that ‘delira and excira’ means, as you may have guessed, ‘delighted and excited’ in Dublin.

The Nice To Meet Ya singer happily proclaimed he is a ‘bogger’, explaining that people from outside of Dublin are referred to as culchies or boggers (‘you’re meant to live in bogland’).

However, possibly the funniest moment was when Niall explained that flute means penis – when the poor Vanity Fair journalist was informed it had meant a silly person.

Horan pretty much summed up the exercise, saying: ‘F***ing hell, we’re some country aren’t we?’

Niall is having the quite the week having won two BMI Awards for his singles Too Much To Ask and On The Loose, and revealed that we can expect the follow-up to his debut album Flicker in early 2020.

He told Hits Radio: ‘I’ve handed it in! I’ve cut it down to about… I’ve written about 60 songs! I’ve got it to 19, and then obviously… No-one wants to hear a 19-track album. It’s a lot of songs to listen to – I’m fine with maybe 14, 15, somewhere in that region, I don’t mind that.

‘I have time – the album’s not coming out until maybe January, February, something like that… March next year, you know, with the whole roll out of singles and going to do promo all over the world and such things. So, let the label do their thing, but I’m ready to go! I’ll condense the songs down to that particular number in the coming weeks when I spend a bit more time with it.’
